Daft Punk’s Random Release

Daft Punk’s claimed its new album Random Access Memories will make its world premiere May 17 in the little-known New South Wales town of Wee Waa, with a population of 1,973.

Sony Music Entertainment Australia declined to comment that the album will be streamed from the Wee Waa Showgrounds in between “a pet show, showgirl competition, cross cut saw competition (and) fireworks,” according to the town’s local paper.

Narrabri Shire mayor Conrad Bolton said he initially thought it was a hoax. But, “Daft Punk is known for breaking down barriers and coming up with new creative, innovative ideas to launch their albums” and that the tiny town was chosen because it’s ‘so uniquely Australian.’”
