Honoring George Jones

A who’s who of country music will gather tomorrow at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry House to give the late great George Jones a proper send-off.  Scheduled to perform at the service are Brad Paisley, Alan Jackson, Charlie Daniels, Vince Gill with Patty Loveless, Travis Tritt and others.

Set to begin at 10 a.m. Central Time, former First Lady Laura Bush, Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, CBS News’ Bob Schieffer, Barbara Mandrell, Pete Fisher and Kenny Chesney will speak at the May 2 memorial.

Also performing will be Kid Rock, Ronnie Milsap, The Oak Ridge Boys, Tanya Tucker and Wynonna.

Although the service is open to the public, there probably isn’t a venue big enough to host all of the country artists and fans wanting to say goodbye to the man that was affectionately known as “The Possum.”  Thankfully, television is filling that need with cable channels CMT, GAC, RFD and FamilyNet as well as Nashville stations WKRN 2, WSMV 4, WTVF 5 and WZTV 17 broadcasting the service live. On the Net you can watch the service at Opry.com or listen to it via WSMonline.com.
