Headline Splendour

Mumford & Sons, Frank Ocean and The National will headline the Splendour in the Grass festival.

The July 26-28 event announced its first 77 acts, including Empire Of The Sun, former Powderfinger singer Bernard Fanning, TV On The Radio, The Presets, Klaxons, James Blake, Laura Marling, Cold War Kids, Passion Pit, new Sydney dance chart act Flume, chart topping rock band Birds Of Tokyo and past Australian Music Prize winners Hermitude, The Drones and Cloud Control.

The Polyphonic Spree’s set will be an alternative version of  “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” while You Am I play their classic albums Sound As Ever and Hi Fi Way.

International acts making their first visit to Australia include FIDLAR, Jake Bugg, Palma Violets, Daughter, Robert Delong, and Little Green Cars.

It is the first time the festival will stage in its 242-hectare site, 25 kilometers out of Byron Bay. The promoters bought the land seven years ago, but were delayed by council restrictions and protests from residents and environmentalist groups that argued the area was home to exotic fauna and animals. As part of the approval, this year’s attendance is capped at 25,000.

A smaller version of the festival, called Spin Off, will be in Adelaide at Thebarton Theatre August 2.
