Shovels & Rope Leads Americana Nods

Country duo Shovels & Rope leads the list of nominees for the 2013 Americana Music Association Awards & Honors announced May 14 during a ceremony at Los Angeles’ Grammy Museum.

Shovels & Rope has four nominations including album of the year for O Be Joyful, song of the year for “Birmingham,” emerging artist of the year and duo/group of the year.

Emmylou Harris and Buddy Miller have three nominations each.

Harris is up for artist of the year, album of the year with Rodney Crowell for Old Yellow Moon, and duo/group of the year with Crowell.

Miller is also up for artist of the year, album of the year for Buddy & Jim with Jim Lauderdale and duo/group of the year with Lauderdale.

Artist of year nominees include Dwight Yoakam and Richard Thompson.

JD McPherson, John Fullbright, and Milk Carton Kids round out the emerging artist category.

The Americana Honors & Awards, hosted by Lauderdale, is scheduled for Sept. 18 at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium.
