Kanrocksas Kanceled

The Kanrocksas Music Festival scheduled for June 28-29 has been canceled. The Kansas City, Kan., festival, launched in 2011, was suspended last year.

There are no plans to reschedule the event, according to the festival’s website. Customers were emailed refund information May 28.

The festival, promoted by Bill Brandmeyer, announced headliners Kendrick LamarTiesto, and The Avett Brothers in January. Acts including Passion PitT-Pain and Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros were announced two months later. The event was to take place at the Kansas Speedway.

The festival attempted to land Mumford & Sons and The Lumineers, according to the Kansas City Star. The groups are scheduled to play Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre in Bonner Springs, Kan., in June.

The 2011 festival featured EminemMuseThe Black Keys and The Flaming Lips. Attendance over two days was about 50,000 but the event lost a “significant” amount of money, according to the paper. The festival was suspended last summer so the promoters could reorganize and develop a new strategy.

“We felt like we could buy four to five great bands for the price of one,” Brandmeyer told the Star. “It was like a small-market philosophy to get the most of our money and offer something special.”
