Reviving A Myth

Myth nightclub – the 3,500-capacity club near Saint Paul, Minn., that reopened two years ago after a tumultuous 2009 closure – has not only recovered but kicked off what should be a summer for the books with two Prince shows May 25.

Primus followed Prince, with Ke$ha, O.A.R., Fall Out Boy,  Marilyn Manson, OneRepublic and ZZ Top on tap over the summer.

The club has come full circle since 2008 when its original owner got into a financial dispute with an investor and was charged with felony theft by swindle and illegally obtaining liquor, according to the Star-Tribune.  It reopened under new, but familiar, ownership in 2011.

New owner Mike Miranowski was involved with Myth before its closing, and GM Ryan Kovaleski got his start there as a bartender when the club first opened in 2005.

“I think we’re finally once again getting the schedule we deserve for the venue that we are,” Kovaleski told the Star-Tribune. “It’s a new era here.”

In addition to hiring an outside security team in EPG Security Group, the venue underwent small but important changes to accommodate large crowds. A ground-floor bar near the stage was moved to improve sight lines and contracts were signed with neighboring business to provide ample parking.

The leap in big-name bookings can be attributed to an inhouse promotions company, Purple Productions, with outside promotion coming from the likes of AEG Live and Jam Productions.
