3M See Ring And Park

Apart from the 160,000 who showed up for Germany’s twinned Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park festivals, another 3 million saw the show on TV or online.

Promoter Marek Lieberberg was delighted and told Pollstar that the festivals “exceeded expectations.” He’s considering adding a fourth day to both events.

There were 87,000 at Rock Am Ring and 73,000 at Rock Im Park.

“All of the feedback we’ve had has been very positive and there hasn’t been one complaint,” Lieberberg explained.
Fans got a bonus when The Killers were added to the bills, even after the events had already sold out.

Lieberberg believes the global TV and Internet audience will eventually reach 6 million or 7 million.

The other acts to play Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park (June 7-9) included Green DayThirty Seconds To MarsKorn,  The Prodigy and Paramore.

This year, Lieberberg is bringing a new festival to the market. It’s called Rock ‘n’ Heim, a 50,000-capacity outdoor event on the Hockenheim motor racing track at Baden-Württemberg.

“We have the festivals at the beginning of the summer and decided we should do something at the end of the season,” he said.

The bill for the Aug. 16-18 festival will include System of a DownVolbeatDie ÄrzteNine Inch NailsTenacious DSeeedFranz FerdinandKraftklubDeftonesChase & StatusKnife Party, and Biffy Clyro.

At the same time, Lieberberg and Medusa Group colleague Dirk Becker have Rock im Pott at the Veltins Arena, home to Bundesliga soccer side Schalke 04.

Last year’s debut took the German Live Entertainment Award for Festival Of The Year.

Rock in Pott has already shifted 30,000 tickets for an Aug. 18 lineup that includes System Of A Down, Volbeat, Tenacious D, Casper, Deftones, and Biffy Clyro.
