Enter Metallica

Metallica will finally play China.

The metal gods have reserved the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai for Aug. 13, courtesy of promoter AEG Live Asia. The band’s upcoming Asian tour also includes headlining gigs at the Summer Sonic festival in Tokyo and Osaka, as well as a stop in Seoul.

Tickets went on sale June 7 and, according to the band’s website, the show is already sold out.

“It is so rare for us to be able to say that we are visiting a country for the first time,” a post from the band read, “so this is an extra special announcement for us. After over 31 years of traveling to almost all corners of the world for so many amazing, wild and thrilling adventures, we will finally be heading to China!”

In a separate statement, AEG Senior Vice President for Asia Music and Touring Adam Wilkes said, “Metallica is hugely popular in China, where the band’s music was among the first Western artists to penetrate the People’s Republic in the mid-eighties.

There is no doubt that this concert is a milestone for live music in China, and the beginning of an exciting new chapter for one of the greatest bands in rock history.”
