?uestlove & D’Angelo Are Your ‘Brothers In Arms’
The two musicians – who were members of the neo soul/alternative hip hop musical collective Soulquarians – teamed up for another gig billed as “Brothers In Arms” earlier this year in Brooklyn. ?uestlove and D’Angelo are also taking their two man show to Minneapolis June 23.
The July 3 performance takes place at Philadelphia’s Theatre of Living Arts. With D’Angelo covering vocals and piano, backed by ?uestlove on drums, the 21+ show promises to “take listeners on a sonic experience unlike anything they have ever heard or seen in the past.”
Additional events planned for July 3 in the lead up to the big Phily Jam concert include “The City” Festival at The Piazza in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia. Headlined by GoGo Morrow, the free City festival is set for 2-9 p.m., featuring 10 acts spanning the genres of pop, R&B, hip-hop, rock & EDM. Plus, Philly Fashion Week is curating a runway showcase and the Philadelphia Food Trust is lining up “delicious and diverse” food trucks.
The fun continues that night and into the early morning July 4 with some of the hottest DJs at “Philadelphia Sound Konnoisseurs” at Club Voyeur. The lineup will be announced in the coming weeks. Past years have featured Diplo, DJ Jazzy Jeff and more.
Along with The Roots, Philly 4th of July Jam features John Mayer, Jill Scott, Demi Lovato, Ne-Yo, Grace Potter and J. Cole. The “largest free concert in America” is held at Philadelphia’s Benjamin Franklin Parkway.
