Indiana Fairground Seats For Sale
Indiana is selling some of the original seats of the Fairgrounds Coliseum, the iconic building where generations of Hoosiers have enjoyed concerts and sporting events.
The Indiana State Fair Foundation says 100 pairs of platform-mounted seats are being sold for $1,000 each. All the money raised from the sale will help pay for the ongoing $63 million renovation of the 1939 building’s interior.
About 90 of the Coliseum’s 8,000 original seats are being restored and will be placed back inside the building, which is scheduled to reopen in August 2014.
The Coliseum has hosted events ranging from a 1964 concert by The Beatles to wrestling matches by Dick the Bruiser. It was also the scene of a 1963 propane gas explosion that killed 74 people attending an ice skating show.
