Steely Dan Do It Again

Steely Dan is returning to New York City’s Beacon Theatre for a seven-night residency this fall. Donald Fagen and Walter Becker took over the venue for multiple nights in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011.

The residency will wrap up the band’s previously announced “Mood Swings: 8 Miles To Pancake Day Tour.” Along with that wacky tour name, Steely Dan’s supporting musicians also received a new nickname – The Bipolar Allstars. The Allstars feature drummer Keith Carlock, Freddie Washington on bass, keyboardist Jim Beard and guitarist Jon Herington, along with the “three sublime, soulful songbirds” known as The Borderline Brats.

The Big Apple shows are scheduled Sept. 30, Oct.1, Oct. 3-5 and Oct. 7-8. Four of the nights feature performances of classic albums from start to finish, along with selected hits.

One night is devoted to the audience’s requests. After purchasing tickets, fans can submit their suggestions for the evening’s setlist.

The other two nights feature the Dan’s greatest hits.

Here is the plan:

Sept. 30 – Aja
Oct. 1 – Greatest Hits
Oct. 3 – Royal Scam
Oct. 4 – Gaucho
Oct. 5 – Request Night
Oct. 7 – Aja
Oct. 8 – Greatest Hits
