Insomniac Hooks Up With LN
Rotella, who initially announced the agreement during a panel discussion at the EDMbiz conference in Las Vegas before releasing an online statement, was quick to state Insomniac will remain an independent company.
“The Insomniac team, led by myself, will maintain complete creative control of all events, just as we always have, only now we will all enjoy access to a much larger and diverse variety of venues and resources,” Rotella said. “Our ticket prices will continue to be fair and reasonable given the experience we provide and we will continue to surprise you and deliver more than we advertise.
“Your joy, your comfort, and your safety will always be our top priority. I, and everyone at Insomniac, will continue to listen to you, communicate with you, and celebrate with you. Our headliners are the most important people in our world and the music and sense of community that brings us together will not change; we want you to be inspired every single time you attend one of our events.”
Insomniac’s fleet of events is anchored by the massive Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas, as well with offerings in Colorado, Florida, New York, New Jersey, Texas and Puerto Rico.
Rotella noted that LN’s resources, venues and relationships will allow Insomniac to produce “bigger and better” festivals in “the world’s most prestigious venues.” In return, LN will gain access to a massive portion of the EDM market.
“It’s simple. They get it,” Rotella said. “They don’t want to change it. They know how important our headliners are to us, and they want us to maintain that connection.”
To that end, he explained Insomniac will continue to use a variety of ticketing companies and will have final say on any sponsorship deals.
“We are still a stand-alone company. We are excited and proud of our partnership with Live Nation – they are the largest live entertainment company in the world,” Rotella said. “When combined with our creativity, imagine the possibilities.”
Rotella stressed the partnership does not mean patrons “have” to use Ticketmaster.
“Our ticketing services will not change. While some venues require we use their ticketing vendors, we’ll continue to use a variety of ticket providers. Different venues hold different ticketing contracts and when we decide to use those venues we cannot control who provides the tickets, and this may include Ticketmaster.”
Though terms of the deal were not disclosed, the Wall Street Journal reported last month that LN was about to plunk down $50 million for a stake in Insomniac. A whopping $100 million figure has also been bandied about. The company denied rumors of a deal at the time.
