Andrew W.K. Is The Dark Prince Of Party

Black Sabbath has picked the opening act for all of its North American dates. A pentagram-loving, shoe-gazing, Severus Snapes-looking band full of teenage self-hate? Nope. Just the one guy who loves life and having fun more than anybody else on the planet: Andrew W.K.

The Big W will be spinning discs for the early crowd, promising “A rabble-rousing selection of classic riffs, heavy jams, and crowd-pleasing favorites spanning every era of hard rock and metal.”

The pairing between the dark lords of heavy metal and WK makes sense, beyond the comparable long hair. Many folks learned of the “international rock ’n’ rolling motivational speaking, TV entertaining, nightclub owner” when his video was featured during the outro of MTV’s hit show “The Osbournes.” Plus, WK and Kelly Osbourne have been known to throw a party from time to time.

“I’m just shocked. It’s just the most incredible dream come true!” Andrew W.K. said. “This is the greatest honor I could be given. I remember when the phone rang and I first heard that Black Sabbath wanted me to be their exclusive opening act. I was really in a state of disbelief – almost sick with amazement … ”

It goes on from there. You get the idea. He’s pretty damned excited. We are too.

The North American dates kick off July 25 at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in Woodlands, Texas, and run through Sept. 3 at the Los Angeles Sports Arena.
