Big Day Out Returns To NZ

After taking a hiatus in 2012 from New Zealand saying it was not financially viable, Australia’s Big Day Out festival has committed to the country for the next five years.

It signed with the Auckland Council to be staged at the outdoor, 50,000-capacity Western Springs in the suburb of Grey Lynn. It previously ran at Mt. Smart Stadium from 1994-2012.

Auckland Mayor Len Brown expressed pleasure that the Big Day Out was staying in Auckland.

“Any world-class city has a constellation of events to cater for the tastes of all of its residents – young and not-so-young,” Brown said. “The relocation to Western Springs would bring this significant music and culture event right into the city for residents and the thousands of visitors it draws to Auckland.”
