Randy Travis’ Rep Denies He’s Had Heart Surgery
Teresa Traywick, the wife of Randy’s brother Ricky Traywick, told People the surgery took place Monday.
We have been told he has had surgery,” Traywick told the magazine. “Our prayers are going out to him because my husband just had a heart attack last year, so it is in their family.”
She added, “Their mother passed away at an early age with her heart, so it is like these boys are following right in their footsteps. My prayers are with them. That’s all I can say right now.”
Here’s what Kirt Webster says:
“Contrary to reports, Randy Travis has not undergone heart surgery. Travis is being treated for viral cardiomyopathy. Travis was admitted into a Texas hospital on Sunday and underwent placement of an IMPELLA peripheral left ventricular assist device for stabilization prior to transferring hospitals.
“The Grammy winner remains in critical condition.”
The publicist also had a message from Travis: “We are very thankful to the fans for their love and support during this time.”
Webster & Associates said Monday that Travis was admitted to the hospital the day before and was “suffering from complications of recently acquired viral cardiomyopathy.”
In the Associated Press’ report on Travis’ condition, the AP pointed out that according to the Mayo Clinic’s website, “the disease weakens and enlarges the heart muscle, making it harder for the heart to pump blood and carry it to the rest of the body. It can lead to heart failure.”
