The Return Of Lady Gaga

Having been absent from the stage since hip surgery sidelined her “Born This Way Ball” tour earlier this year, Lady Gaga’s first live performance since undergoing the knife will be next month at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Lady Gaga appears on stage to start the ball drop in Times Square during the New Year’s Eve celebration.

Gaga will perform her still untitled debut single from her new ARTPOP album at the VMAs, scheduled for Aug. 25 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.  The single will be released Aug. 19 and the album drops Nov. 11.

A singer known for outrageousness appearing at an event that has a rep for being unpredictable has already spurred speculation regarding what she might have planned for her little monsters.  The Los Angeles Times notes that Gaga “has certainly reserved some of her zaniest moments for the VMA stage” and in past years has “doused herself in blood, donned a dress made of raw meat and hit on Britney Spears while in full drag as a man.”

In other words, Gaga, who has won 13 VMAs, will probably amaze, stupefy, tantalize and entertain.  After all, it’s show biz.

Gaga abruptly canned the remaining dates of her “Born This Way Ball” tour in February when doctors discovered a labral tear of her right hip.  The singer announced earlier this month that she had fully recovered from surgery.  Her last concert was Feb. 11 at Montreal’s Bell Centre.
