The Replacements Announce Official 2013 Lineup

The Replacements have revealed who will be taking the stage with guitarist/vocalist Paul Westerberg and bassist Tommy Stinson when the band plays its first shows in more than 22 years. The rockers have three appearances at Riot Fest to take care of, starting this month in Toronto.

In mid-June Riot Fest organizers announced they had booked the Minneapolis band at all three of its 2013 editions – , and .

At that time a post on PaulWesterberg.com said, “As of now, the only details are that Paul and Tommy are playing – no word on who else will be playing with them for these shows.”

Well, Replacements fans, you’ve waited long enough. Josh Freese – who has played with Vandals, Guns N’ Roses, Devo and a Perfect Circle – will be on drums for the Riot Fest shows and David Minehan of The Neighborhoods is playing guitar. The band made its official lineup announcement via a story with the Star-Tribune.

This isn’t the first time Freese and Minehan have rocked out with Westerberg. The musicians joined The Replacements frontman on the road as part of the band backing his early-‘90s solo shows.

The Star-Tribune notes that Freese was featured in two tunes on The Replacements’ 2006 compilation Don’t You Know Who I Think I Was? And there’s another Replacements connection. Freese and Stinson were in Guns N’ Roses at the same time.

So, what’s the word on additional Replacements dates?

Westerberg’s manager, Darren Hill, who played bass in Westerberg’s early-‘90s band, told the Star-Tribune, “There are no plans right now besides those three shows.”

Riot Fest is scheduled Aug. 25 at Toronto’s Historic Fort York, Sept. 15 at Chicago’s Humboldt Park, and just outside of Denver Sept. 21 at Byers’ May Farms.
