Beatles Promoter Sid Bernstein Dies

Bernstein was responsible for booking the Beatles at the famed 1965 show – the first concert staged at a stadium – along with their performance at Carnegie Hall the previous year.

He said he could have booked 50 shows at that venue because of the demand, which led to the Shea booking.

He also arranged The Rolling Stones’ first five U.S. gigs, along with shows for Judy Garland, Ray Charles, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra and Jimi Hendrix.

“The first dozen groups of the British Invasion were my imports,” Bernstein said in an interview. “But look, it was no stroke of genius. I was just doing my homework at the time.”
