Made In America Festival Security Announced In Pa.

As the second installment of Jay Z’s popular Made in America music festival nears, Philadelphia officials disclosed logistical and security details Friday and said concertgoers may be searched or patted down.

The Aug. 31-Sept. 1 event on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway downtown features Beyoncé and Nine Inch Nails and more than two dozen other acts.

Festivalgoers were encouraged to bring sunscreen, sunglasses, identification and cash or credit or debit cards. They will be allowed to bring one backpack or bag, also subject to searches, as well as blankets, towels, umbrellas, empty plastic bottles or hydration packs and one plastic water bottle per person.

Chairs, glass containers, coolers, outside food and beverages other than water, fireworks and weapons won’t be allowed. Neither are pets other than trained service animals.

Officials say the event will benefit United Way organizations in the Philadelphia area and Lancaster County. Last year’s event was credited with generating more than $350,000 for education and job programs in the city and surrounding communities in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
