Brendan Canning Has His Own Shows To Play

The Broken Social Scene member has his own album coming out in autumn along with a few gigs to support it.  Described as the “first round” of tour dates, Brendan Canning will be visiting Montreal, New York, Philadelphia, Arlington, Va., and Allston, Mass.

Canning hasn’t exactly been idle during Broken Social Scene’s downtime, a period described by his press rep as an “indefinite hiatus” for the music collective based out of the Toronto area.  He got busy with his pre-BSS indie-pop project called Cookie Duster and he’s been working on original music for an undertaking steeped in augmented reality and film for the Toronto International Film Festival.  He also composed the soundtrack to Paul Schrader’s “The Canyons,” the Bret Easton Ellis-penned film which paired troubled actress Lindsay Lohan with porn star James Deen.

Canning’s second solo album, You Gots 2 Chill will be released Oct. 1 via SQE.  Here’s what’s on the books so far, touring wise:

Sept. 28 – Montreal, Quebec, Casa Del Popolo (Pop Montreal Int’l Music Festival)
Oct. 23 – Allston, Mass., Great Scott
Oct. 24 – New York, N.Y., Mercury Lounge
Oct. 25 – Philadelphia, Pa., World Café Live
Oct. 26 – Arlington, Va., IOTA

Holly Miranda supports Oct. 23-26.  Some shows are on sale now.  For more information click here for Canning’s Facebook page and here for his Twitter feed.
