Arrest Cancels Labor Day Weekend Fest
Endless Summer organizer Brian Mossman and another man were arrested for marijuana and paraphernalia possession in the lead-up to the event, according to the local News-Herald, which set off alarms for Lake Havasu City officials who discovered Mossman’s associate had been arrested previously for dealing Ecstasy.
“A known drug dealer on probation was involved in that incident,” Brian Allen, the city’s special event coordinator, told the paper. “That threw up red flags. … We felt there were public safety reasons to deny this (permit) until the legal matters are resolved.”
Mossman allegedly claims he has a California medical marijuana card and says he was unfairly targeted by police.
“This has been a nightmare,” he told the paper. “I spent over $150,000 to produce the event. All of the vendors are really upset. I put so much effort into it, and that (arrest) was a personal issue. …
“I see it as a totally separate issue. They (officials) are saying it is a public safety issue for the people of Lake Havasu City that I had a small amount of pot.”
However, the arrest wasn’t the only one of Endless Summer’s problems.
The fest’s liquor license was reportedly denied at the state level because Mossman didn’t apply through a registered 501(c)(3) organization. Mossman added he is planning to sue the city over the incident.
