Honoring The Rolling Stones
Presented by the Rock Hall and Case Western Reserve University, “It’s Only Rock ’n Roll (But I Like It): The Music Of The Rolling Stones” is scheduled Oct. 21-26. The tribute is the 18th annual Music Masters series and is sponsored by ELS Surround.
The week in Cleveland will include interviews, panels, films and education programs. On the day of the show a conference will be held at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame to explore The Rolling Stones impact on music. The Stones were inducted into the Rock Hall in 1989.
Then there’s the Oct. 26 concert featuring all the musicians who have, at one time or another, gigged with The Rolling Stones. Among those performing will be saxman Bobby Keyes who has toured and recorded with the band for four decades. Other musicians appearing that night will be Ian McLagan, the Faces/Small Faces keyboardist who played on Some Girls and toured with the band in 1978, ’81 and ’82, and Ivan Neville who appeared on the albums Dirty Work and Voodoo Lounge and played in Keith Richards’ X-Pensive Winos band.
Also appearing will be Lisa Fischer, who has sung backup vocals with The Stones since 1989, as well as guitarist Waddy Wachtel, vocalist Bernard Fowler, drummer Steve Jordan, saxophonist Trevor Lawrence, trumpet player Steve Madaio and bassist Willie Weeks. The tribute concert will take place at Playhouse Square’s State Theatre in Cleveland.
“We are very excited to expand the stories we tell in the Music Masters program,” Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and Museum VP of education Lauren Onkey said. “Rock and roll caught fire around the world, and we want to reflect that in this program. The Rolling Stones were inspired by so many great American artists in creating their own original brand of rock and roll – it’s an incredible story. We have an outstanding band to showcase the music of The Stones.”
Ranging in price from $30 to $80, tickets for the tribute concert go on sale to the general public Sept. 18 at 11 a.m. A presale for Rock Hall members will take place online beginning Sept. 16 at 10 a.m. All times Eastern Daylight. Visit RockHall.com for more information.
