Blondie Chaplin To Sail On With Brian Wilson & Jeff Beck

The upcoming Brian Wilson/Jeff Beck co-headlining adventure, which already includes founding Beach Boys members Al Jardine and David Marks, adds Blondie Chaplin to select dates.

While not an original member, Chaplin was an official Beach Boy during the early 1970s.  Hailing from Durbin, South Africa, Chaplin’s band The Flame became the only band other than The Beach Boys to record on the latter’s Brother Records imprint.  He also appeared on The Beach Boys’ 1972 release Carl And The Passions – “So Tough” and the group’s 1973 album, Holland.  That’s Chaplin’s voice you’re hearing whenever you listen to The Beach Boys’ original recording of “Sail On, Sailor.”

“Blondie was one of my favorite singers in the ’70s.  He blew my mind with ‘Sail On, Sailor’ and he also sang on a song called ‘Funky Pretty’ on The Beach Boys’ Holland album,” Brian Wilson said. “Until two weeks ago, I hadn’t seen him since 1974.  It was great to see him again.  He came into the studio and sang on one of my new tracks called ‘He Come Down’ – and he sang it great.  I’m stoked that he’ll be performing at a few of our shows.”
