Lorde Makes Silver Scroll Shortlist

 Lorde’s U.S. Top 5 runaway hit “Royals” was among five New Zealand songs shortlisted for the Silver Scroll songwriting award.

Organised by the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA) for the past 48 years, the award recognises the best local song from the past 12 months. The Top 5 was voted for by APRA’s 10,000 NZ members.

The other songs were “Bird In Hand” by former Duchess and Handsome Geoffrey singer Anna Coddington, the Nashville-recorded “Complicated Man” by guitarist-singer Cy Winstanley, “Thames Soup,” the ode to homesickness by Wellington band The Phoenix Foundation and “Wake Up” by R&B singer Aaradhna.

The winner will be unveiled Oct. 15 at Auckland’s .

The night also announces the winner of most-performed works in New Zealand and overseas, best work by Maori and classical contemporary artists, and the latest induction to the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame.
