Gudinski Takes Future Back To Roots

Australian promoter Michael Gudinski wasted no time in putting his stamp on EDM festival Future Music.

He bought into the company in August through his Mushroom Group and Frontier Touring after its previous operators ran into financial trouble.

The bill for the 2014 event sees a strong return to EDM, with first-time visits by artists including Eric Prydz alongside Deadmau5Paul van DykTinie TempahKnife Party and Aussie acts including Cut CopyTimmy Trumpet and Stafford Bros.

Gudinski booked crossover acts Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Phoenix but avoided expensive retro acts whom Future’s previous operators booked hoping to attract an older demographic.

Future Music is also moving into two new venues – Brisbane’s RNA Showgrounds March 1 and Adelaide Showgrounds March 10 – as well as the renovated Sydney Royal Randwick Racecourse (March 8), Perth’s Arena Joondalup (March 2) and Melbourne’s Flemington Racecourse (March 9).
