Officials held a groundbreaking ceremony Sept. 19 for The Amphitheater at Heron Ponds at the 30-acre site near the Delaware state line.

Property owner Doug Marshall told WBOC-TV the 7,000-capacity venue would host a variety of acts.

A temporary stage was used to host concerts by Kellie Pickler, Everclear, and Diamond Rio last October.

“It’s very expensive to put on concerts and as you can imagine we have learned our lessons on how to promote them,” Marshall told the TV station. “We learned quickly that the temporary structure was fine but there was no way to be noticed until we moved forward.”

The Amphitheater at Heron Ponds is expected to open within three years.
