Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings Ready To Rock Again

In a post titled, “Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings are BACK!” the band announced a new release date for its album along with news about its “triumphant return to the stage.” The group was forced to push back the release and tour after Jones was diagnosed with cancer.

The last time we checked in with the band Jones had revealed to fans that she had started a six-month course of chemotherapy in August as a preventative measure. The frontwoman underwent surgery in June for bile duct cancer to remove a stage-one tumor.

Today’s announcement says, “It brings great joy and relief to announce that after a successful operation, ongoing treatment, and the continued support and love of friends, family, and fans, Sharon Jones is back.”

The group’s sixth album was originally due out in August. Give the People What They Want is now set for release Jan. 14.

The Dap-Kings will be back on stage the following month for their Feb. 6 show at New York City’s Beacon Theater.

“The entire Daptone Family is overjoyed and inspired to see Sharon’s recovery,” says the band’s bassist and bandleader Bosco Mann. “Without a doubt, this album is the greatest thing we’ve ever recorded and I’ve been anxious for the world to hear it. Everything will culminate in February at the Beacon. That moment when Sharon walks out to join us on stage again is going to be insane.”

Today’s big news also includes the debut of the music video for “Retreat,” the opening track of Give The People What They Want.
