‘Twerking’ Verges On Pornography

Former Eurythmics vocalist Annie Lennox has told BBC Radio 5 that the sexy imagery of modern pop videos is “dark” and “pornographic.”

She called for pop videos to be rated in the same way as films. “I’m all for freedom of expression,” she said, “but this is clearly one step beyond, and it’s clearly into the realm of porn.

“How do you stop your kids being exposed to it? It’s so powerful. You don’t want to see your seven-year-old girls twerking all over the place,” Lennox added.

“Twerking” usually involves women sticking their rear ends out and thrusting suggestively in a near-squatting position.

Chief culprits, according to Lennox, are Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke, Rihanna, Britney Spears, Nicki Minaj, and Lady Gaga.

“There’s nothing wrong with sexuality and sensuality and I think these artists are beautiful. And, in many ways, what they do is fantastic, but it needs to be age-appropriate,” Lennox told BBC 5’s Anna Foster.
