Billy Joel Books Spur-Of-The Moment Show

Billy Joel’s spur-of-the moment decision to book a gig for tomorrow night is good news for fans near Long Island. He decided to stick around to play a show after rehearsing at the Paramount in Huntington, N.Y., last week in preparation for his European tour.

The Oct. 16 gig is a great chance to see the Piano Man in an intimate setting. But with a capacity of only 1,555, it’s a safe bet to say that tickets will be snatched up quickly.

Paramount co-owner Stephen Ubertini noted that Joel decided to rehearse at the venue after catching some concerts there and having a good time.

“It’s the ultimate compliment for us that he’s chosen to play here. It’s a watershed moment.”

Tomorrow’s performance marks Joel’s first public Long Island show since he took the stage with Elton John at the Nassau Coliseum in 2002.

After Huntington, Joel is off to the other side of the Atlantic for a handful of dates in England and Ireland. The excursion begins Oct. 29 in Manchester, England, at the 21,000-capacity Phones 4u Arena.

Tickets for Wednesday’s show went on sale today at 12 p.m. Eastern Time. A portion of the proceeds will go to Long Island Cares – The Harry Chapin Food Bank.
