Ohio Park Proposition

Two brothers near Medina, Ohio, seek investors to help fund the construction of an 8,000-seat outdoor venue on the site of an abandoned amusement park.

The stage at Chippewa Lake Amusement Park – 30 miles south of Cleveland – reportedly once hosted acts including Creedence Clearwater Revival, Neil Diamond, Paul Revere & the Raiders, and Alice Cooper.

Scott and Brian Jones would like to bring back the music, according to the Medina Gazette, and have formed a company called Flying Cages to raise the $5 million needed to do so.

“We’re not just reviving the park and bringing back the live music,” Scott Jones said in a statement. “We’re going to restore the beautiful land and contribute to its surrounding communities while preserving a legacy.”

Plans in the works include a Starlight stage that would host 30 national acts each summer, a nearby campground featuring 300 campsites and an open-air market with room for more than 100 vendors, the statement added.

A community meeting to discuss the project with residents and local officials is scheduled, the paper said.

If funding is secured, the park could open as early as 2015.
