Billy Joel Books One-Off Gig

Billy Joel has started making plans for 2014 with a one-off U.S. gig confirmed in early January. Could this be the start of the Piano Man’s first full-fledged headline tour since 2008?

Last week Joel booked a spur-of-the moment gig at the 1,555-capacity Paramount in Huntington, N.Y., with the Oct. 16 show announced the day before the performance.

He had been rehearsing at the venue in preparation for his U.K. & Ireland excursion that begins at the end of this month. Joel used the opportunity to play the intimate venue to showcase some of his lesser-known tunes including “A Room Of Our Own” and “Stop in Nevada.” He even performed his tribute to his ex-wife Christie Brinkley, “Blonde Over Blue,” according to Rolling Stone

For now, your next chance to see Joel in the U.S. is Jan. 7 in Sunrise, Fla., at the BB&T Center.

Perhaps the Sunrise show is the first stop on a 2014 U.S. tour. Or maybe it’s a show in the middle of an upcoming trek. With the brief U.K./Ireland tour wrapping up Nov. 8, Joel has plenty of time to schedule more U.S. dates in late 2013. And a Facebook fan group claims there are a handful of New York dates in the works. Then again, maybe the Sunrise show is just a one-off. Guess we’ll see.

An American Express presale begins Oct. 28 at 10 a.m. Tickets go on sale to the public Nov. 2 at 10 a.m. All times are Eastern.
