Ke$ha Malaysia Show Canceled

Ke$ha‘s tour of Asia and the Pacific did not make its previously scheduled stop in Kuala Lumpur on Oct. 26 apparently because the show was too racy for authorities.

Malaysia’s Ministry of Communications and Multimedia canceled the show the week before.

While no reason was given publicly for the cancellation, the promoters of the concert, Livescape Asia, did tell media they had tried to comply with Malaysian rules for concerts by “modifying the show to suit Malaysian culture and sensitivies, including [making] adjustments to Ke$ha’s song lyrics, wardrobe changes, and a set list that was modified to specifically adhere to the guidelines set forth by the authorities.”

Apparently, the authorities were not mollified, and Livescape says it stands to lose $350,000 because of the cancellation.

The singer herself offered her take on the matter, via Twitter.

“To be clear. I did NOT cancel,” she wrote. “I was not allowed to play, and then I was going to play anyways and was threatened with imprisonment.”
