The 1,400-capacity Clutch Cargo’s has been purchased by a family that donated the property to Grace Gospel Fellowship, according to WDIV-TV of Detroit.
The church has launched a $2 million fundraising campaign to renovate and restore the building, the station said.
This isn’t the first time the building will house a church.
The First Congregational Church of Pontiac used the space between 1911 and 1997, when it was sold to investors who transformed it into the Sanctum nightclub, WDIV reported.
The club struggled before it was sold and then reopened as Clutch Cargo’s.
The last show on the books is Less Than Jake Nov. 14.
Renovations are scheduled to begin in January.
