The operators of the jet, Starwood Management, said the case in California should be dismissed and moved because investigations into the crash are ongoing in Mexico and many records are kept there.

An attorney for the plaintiffs, who are suing for wrongful death, disagreed, noting the plane was registered in the U.S., Starwood is incorporated in Nevada, and investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board are aiding Mexican authorities with the investigation.

Jenni Rivera Enterprises Inc. has reportedly objected to efforts to have the case heard in Mexico.

Superior Court Judge Holly Kendig rejected Starwood’s motion Nov. 14.
