moe. Wishes NYC’s Wetlands A Happy Anniversary

Just because New York City’s Wetlands Preserve isn’t around anymore doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate what would have been the iconic nightclub’s 25th anniversary. Two nights of festivities in February will be headlined by moe., with some help from special guests.

Wetlands, which closed in 2001, combined live music with an environmental and social justice activist center. Acts including Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band, Phish and Oasis played their first NYC gigs at the venue.

The anniversary gigs will take place at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, N.Y., Feb. 7-8.

Along with moe., the lineup features Wetlands alumni including John Medeski (Medeski Martin & Wood), Chris Barron (Spin Doctors), Aaron Maxwell (God Street Wine), Fuzz and Jen Durkin (Deep Banana Blackout), Dave Masucci (The Authority), Scott Murawski (Max Creek) and Reid Genauer (Strangefolk). Plus, look out for “The Ringers,” made up of Jimmy Herring (Aquarium Rescue Unit), Wayne Krantz (Steely Dan, Bill Cobham), Michael Landau (Joni Mitchell, Michael Jackson, James Taylor), Keith Carlock (Sting, John Mayer, Steely Dan) and Étienne M’Bappé (John McLaughlin).

“Wetlands was one of those legendary places that every band in our scene aspired to reach one day,” said moe.’s Al Schnier. “More than any other gig we played, it felt like everything was riding on our Wetlands shows every time we played there. You could sense that energy in the shows too. So many great artists played the room, packed to the rafters with fans – hot, sweaty, and rocking until well past 4 a.m.”

Tickets are on sale now.
