Madison Square Garden Planning ‘Historic Announcement’

Madison Square Garden has some really big news to share with you about Billy Joel – but it’s going to have to wait until after you’ve had your fill of mashed potatoes and survived the Black Friday madness. Just how huge is this news? It’s apparently historical!

Now that Madison Square Garden has booked four dates with Joel, the NYC venue has something else it’s cooking up with the Piano Man. We’ll all find out next Tuesday.

The world’s most famous arena tweeted yesterday, “Music icon @BillyJoel & @TheGarden are making an exclusive and historic announcement on 12/3 at 11am! #BillyJoelMSG”

Fans can tune in to watch the live stream via Msg.com or Fuse.TV.

Hmm … so what could it be? Joel already made history at The Garden in 2006 when his sold-out 12-night residency broke the record for the venue’s “longest run of a single artist.”

Rolling Stone is speculating that Joel might be planning to play one show a month at MSG throughout 2014 – and that maybe each gig could feature a different one of his 12 pop albums in full. RS adds that another option might be for Joel to perform “three or four of his most popular albums a few times each.”

The magazine points out that earlier this year he told RS, “I got tired of doing the greatest hits set. If I was going to play again in places like New York, I would probably feature entire albums.”

So far Joel has announced one show a month at Madison Square Garden for January, February, March and April. There’s been no mention that these are special album shows.

Leave us a comment and tell us what you think or hope Joel and MSG will announce on Tuesday.
