‘Sound Of Music’ Airtime Nears! Anybody Nervous?

How do you solve a problem like preparing a classic Broadway musical for live TV?

If you’re the stars of NBC’s “The Sound of Music Live!” you practice hard and hear the clock ticking toward 8 p.m. EST on Dec. 5.

But, even so, they have confidence in confidence alone.

“Yeah, I get sweaty palms thinking about it,” allows Christian Borle (who plays Max). “But it will be a kick! It will be an adrenaline rush!”

“I’m not worried about the actual production,” echoes Stephen Moyer (Capt. von Trapp). “Yes, it will be nerve-racking. But the most important thing was that I said, ‘Yes, I’ll do it.’“

Laura Benanti (Elsa) explains, “I have reframed nervousness to its second cousin, excitement. I don’t know what this is gonna feel like. But I’m excited!”

“I’m really hoping that on Dec. 5 we will have done it so much that it’ll feel like just another rehearsal,” says Carrie Underwood (Maria). “Obviously, there’ll be a heightened awareness of what’s happening, but I’m hoping that it feels like ‘We’ve got this!’ one last time.”

And then, says Audra McDonald (Mother Abbess) confidently, “I think we’ll all wake up the next day and say, ‘What happened?!’“
