Pixies Say Goodbye To Kim No. 2

Pixies have split with Kim Shattuck less than five months after the bassist took the place of the other Kim. Not too many details about Stattuck’s departure are known – except it sounds like she was fired.

Shattuck officially joined the lineup in July on bass and backing vocals. Her previous experience includes playing bass for all-girl Los Angeles rock band The Pandoras and guitar for pop punk band The Muffs.

She broke the news of the split with posts on Facebook and Twitter saying her last day with the band was Nov. 29.

“Super disappointed to learn that my time with the Pixies ended today,” Shattuck wrote on Facebook. “Amazing experience. Looking forward to focusing my attention back on the Muffs and our upcoming new album. All the best to everyone.”

As of the time of this post the Pixies hadn’t commented on Shattuck’s departure or announced who will be taking over on bass on the 2014 tour.

Deal, who had been with the band since its start in 1986, left the Pixies earlier this year. Frontman Black Francis told Rolling Stone Deal suddenly quit while the group was in Wales recording new songs.

“We were at a little coffee shop near the studio,” Black Francis said. “Kim walked in at some point and said, ‘I’m flying home tomorrow.’ She quit the band. It was an awkward moment. We didn’t hug or shake hands or anything.”

Pixies manager Richard Jones told the magazine that Deal “didn’t want to do all the things that go with releasing new music, as in all the traveling and touring. She just decided that she wanted to move on.”
