Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks Wig Out

Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks have set dates for the band’s first North American tour since 2011. That was the last year the indie rockers released an album – and what do you know, the group has a new LP coming out next month.

The follow-up to Mirror Traffic is due out on Matador Jan. 7. Malkmus explains that Wig Out At Jagbags has a wide range of influences, including his old band Pavement.

Wig Out At Jagbags is inspired by Cologne, Germany, Mark Von Schlegell, Rosemarie Trockel, Von Spar and Jan Lankisch, Can and Gas; Stephen-Malkmus-imagined Weezer/Chili Peppers, Sic Alps, UVA in the late 80’s, NYRB, Aroma Charlottenburg, inactivity, Jamming, Indie guys trying to sound Memphis, Flipper, Pete Townshend, Pavement, The Joggers, The NBA and home life in the 2010’s …”

Well, then. Malkmus did not mention who, what, when and where did not influence the album.

The North American leg of the Wig Out At Jagbags Tour launches Feb. 12 in Englewood, Colo. The excursion includes support from Tyvek, Disappears, Endless Boogie, Purling Hiss and Speedy Ortiz.
