Mich. Promoter Faces Fraud Charges

The promoter of an annual rock festival in Jackson, Mich., is facing felony charges for writing bad checks to vendors at this summer’s Rockapalooza June 21-23.

Kings of Rock Entertainment’s Tim Corser was charged with three counts of issuing checks for more than $500 with insufficient funds and intent to defraud, the Jackson Citizen Patriot reported.

Each count includes a penalty of up to two years in prison and could include thousands in fines.

But Corser claims the rubber checks weren’t entirely his fault.

He told the paper he was unable to pay the vendors after one of Rockapalooza’s sponsors left him high and dry – the Michigan National Guard.

Capt. Corissa Barton of the National Guard public affairs office confirmed Corser was never paid.

“I did some digging and found out there were some issues that came up with the contract at the last minute,” Barton told the Citizen Patriot. “(Corser) was not listed as one of our approved vendors, and there were still other things we needed from him (to issue payment).

“To my knowledge, as of (Friday, Dec. 6), everything has been turned in and he should be receiving payment any day.”

Corser added that he’s been living out of his car and “working three jobs and continuing to make the payments needed to resolve this situation.”

In light of the charges, Corser announced via Facebook Rockapalooza has come to an end.

“My promise to myself was to walk away when I felt that my heart wasn’t in it anymore,” he wrote. “I have nothing more to prove. I set out to do what I wanted to do and my goals are met, and with great comfort I say to everyone that Rockapalooza will not return to Jackson MI for another year.”
