Lorde Takes On North America In 2014

When Lorde embarks on her next headline tour through the U.S. and Canada, it’s a good chance she’ll be referred to as a Grammy winner. After picking up four Grammy nominations earlier this month, she’s announced a 16-date North American trek that begins in March.

The New Zealander wunderkind’s debut album, Pure Heroine, is up for best pop vocal album. The 17-year-old also earned Grammy nods for record of the year, song of the year and best pop solo performance for her hit single “Royals.”

In August “Royals” earned Lorde the distinction of being the first solo female artist to top the U.S. alternative songs charts since 1996. Since then the song’s seven weeks at the top of the chart set the record for the longest No. 1 at alternative radio by a female artist. The tune also hit No.1 overall on the U.S. singles chart, remaining in the top spot for 9 weeks, in addition to topping the charts in an additional 45 countries. “Royals” wild success makes Lorde the youngest artist to reach No.1 since Tiffany’s “I Think We’re Alone Now” ruled the chart in November 1987.

And whether or not Lorde ends up taking home any Grammys from the Jan. 26 show, Pure Heroine has already been awarded a spot on plenty of Year End lists from Rolling Stone to the New York Times.
