Davis had been at Kingston Mines, a jazz club where he regularly performed, hours before he was found dead in a car, the Chicago Tribune reported.

He and his band, The Troublemakers, were scheduled to play several shows at Beale on Broadway in St. Louis in late December, according to his website.

He was the son of blues drummer Bobby “Top Hat” Davis.
