NYE Dance Party Probs

The countdown to 2014 didn’t go as planned at two New Year’s Eve dance parties in Australia.

One planned at Sydney’s new Wet And Wild water theme park, after selling 8,700 of 9,000 tickets, canceled six hours before showtime.

Promoters One Cube Entertainment, better known for smaller club nights, blamed “technical production issues.”

The promoter offered an alternate site at a local club (which led to complaints to the Dept. of Fair Trading) and has begun refunding nearly $1 million.

The local council was reportedly concerned about security and traffic management.

Yarra Council in Melbourne is chasing up promoters of a dance party for a A$30,000 ($26,815) cleanup bill.

What was to be a sedate affair at Edinburgh Gardens in the suburb of Fitzroy turned into a disaster after 15,000 people turned up for an illegal rave marketed through social media.

Council rules banning amplified music and an alcohol ban after 9 p.m. were disregarded, and 20 people were treated for injuries including a police officer punched by a 17-year-old.
