James Vincent McMorrow’s ‘Post Tropical’ Journey

Days ahead of the U.S. release of “Post Tropical” James Vincent McMorrow has announced a North American tour to go along with his sophomore album. He tweets, “These are just the start of the tour dates, don’t worry if I’m not near u yet, I probably will be soon.”

McMorrow is mixing things up with his second LP.

NPR writes, “James Vincent McMorrow first popped on our radar back in 2010, when he released his breathtakingly beautiful debut Early In The Morning, a collection of acoustic folk notable, in part, for McMorrow’s remarkable voice. But it turns out McMorrow never really wanted to be a folk singer. His latest album, Post Tropical, is a sultry, slinky R&B album, with drum machines and soul-inspired harmonies.”

The Irish musician explains, “The texture of this record is completely different. This is the kind of stuff I actually listen to.”

He adds, “It’s so exhausting trying to keep up with styles of music that pop up one week, and disappear the next. For me, Post Tropical evokes a style of music without you having a clue what it sounds like. It’s warm and familiar, but there’s something there that’s maybe not quite what you think it is. I just wanted to make the most beautiful thing that I could imagine. And that was it.”

After being released in Ireland Friday, Post Tropical is due out in the U.K. on Jan. 13 and the U.S. Jan. 14.
