Dream Theater’s One-Of-A-Kind Gig

Not all dates on Dream Theater’s “Along For The Ride” North American tour are the same. The band’s March gig in Boston will feature a performance with the Berklee College Of Music.

Of course there’s a connection between the prog-metal band and the esteemed music school.  Three Dream Theater co-founders – guitarist John Petrucci, bassist John Myung and former drummer Mike Portnoy – were students at Berklee.  What’s more, Dream Theater’s current drummer Mike Mangini is a former faculty member.

When Dream Theater plays the Boston Opera House March 25 the band will be joined by the Berklee World Strings and the Berklee Concert Choir during the last half of the evening’s set.  The official word is that the “ensembles will layer distinct dramatic elements” to Dream Theater’s show, but we’re betting fans are going to get way more than mere words can express.

And there’s a chance that Dream Theater will have a brand new Grammy when the band hits Boston.  The group is nominated for Best Metal performance for the single “The Enemy Inside” from the group’s self-titled album released in September.  We’ll find out when “Music’s Biggest Night” takes over Los Angeles’ Staples Center Jan 26.

Tickets for Dream Theater’s one-night-only gig with Berklee College Of Music are on sale now.  Click here for more information.
