Canceled Texas Show Fallout

Promoters of an afternoon monster truck show geared to children at the Victoria Community Center in Texas Dec. 11 canceled the show with no option for a refund, upsetting adults and children alike.

Race Track Promotions reportedly canceled the 2 p.m. children’s show, part of the Winter Nationals Monsters and Motorsports Spectacular car show, out of the blue. Matinee ticket holders were told they could use their tickets for the 7:30 p.m. show but no refunds would be given, according to the Victoria Advocate.

Monster truck promoter Steve Quercio told the paper it was venue officials’ fault that he had to scuttle the event.

Quercio claims he wasn’t told the facility had also booked the Victoria Comic Con for the same day.

This created a problem with both events using the same entrance.

Quercio said he usually sells food during his events but that center staff leased the concession stand to the comic convention, the paper said.

Not so, according to Parks and Recreation Director Colby VanGundy.

VanGundy told the Advocate he’d met with truck show and comic con promoters the night before to iron out details of splitting the entrance and restricting concession access to only Comic Con attendees, so there were no surprises.
