A Few More Things: Garth Brooks, Kanye West, Prince, Jane’s Addiction
The set of shows at Dublin’s Croke Park Stadium dubbed “The Garth Brooks Comeback Special Event” now includes three nights instead of two. This morning Aiken Promotions announced a third date at the venue – Sunday, July 27.
When Brooks announced the first two nights (July 25-26) earlier this month he said he wanted to challenge himself to fill up the stadium.
The challenge was easily met today with tickets for all three nights quickly snatched up. Aiken Promotions tweeted, “240,000 tickets sell out in 90 mins, See you in July.”
Earlier this week the news broke that Prince was suing fans for copyright infringement in a $22 million lawsuit that named two fans and listed another 20 by “Doe” or their website titles. His royalty was mad that fans had allegedly posted setlists from his shows on blogs and/or Facebook pages with links to bootleg recordings.
Now the Purple One has filed to dismiss the suit, according to TMZ.
Prince’s lawyer told the gossip site, “Because of the recent pressure, the bootleggers have now taken down the illegal downloads and are no longer engaging in piracy. We recognize the fans craving for as much material as possible, but we’d prefer they get it from us directly than from third parties who are scalpers rather than real fans of our work.”
The Twitter page for Prince’s backing band, 3rd Eye Girl, linked to a story about the lawsuit’s dismissal and wrote, “RESOLUTION.”
Kanye West has apparently worked things out with the guy who was on the other end of his fist in Beverly Hills earlier this month.
The Beverly Hills Police Department named the rapper as a suspect in a misdemeanor battery assault probe for an alleged incident that took place Jan. 13. TMZ reported that after a young man outside a building in Beverly Hills shouted obscenities and the N-word at Kim Kardashian, she and West followed him into the waiting room of a chiropractic officer, where West allegedly punched the guy.
The young man has reportedly gotten West to agree to a civil settlement of more than $250,000, rather than pursuing a criminal prosecution, according to TMZ. The gossip site says its law enforcement sources claim “the D.A. has not decided whether to charge Kanye with battery. The reality is … there’s almost no chance of that happening. First, the D.A. now has an uncooperative victim. Second, the victim’s alleged racial epithets will not sit well with the jury.”
Jane’s Addiction isn’t done commemorating the 25th anniversary of its first studio album, Nothing’s Shocking.
The band will perform the album in full when it takes the stage for three nights at the new Brooklyn Bowl in Las Vegas May 8-10.
“We had a blast performing at our event during the CES show this month so we decided that Vegas would be a great spot for a final celebration of our 25th anniversary,” Perry Farrell said.
Tickets for the gigs go on sale Saturday, Feb. 1 at 10 a.m. PST.
