Sled Island Reveals Dates, Guest Curator

Canada’s Sled Island Music & Arts Festival returns to Calgary, Alberta, this summer. Although there’s no lineup yet, organizers have announced their 2014 curator.  More after the jump.

Scheduled for June 18-22 at more than 30 venues throughout Calgary, this year’s Sled Island will be personally guided by curator Kathleen Hanna (The Julie Ruin, Le Tigre, Bikini Kill).  A native of Portland, Ore., Hanna has forged a career in feminism activism through pop culture and punk rock.  Hanna is known for co-founding the riot grrrl movement as well as contributing to its namesake zine.  Past Sled Island curators include Andrew W.K., and Pavement’s Scott Kannberg.

How popular is Sled Island?  After massive flooding forced the festival’s cancelation two days into the four-day event, patrons chose to forgo their refunds so that Sled Island could return this year.

Several ticket options are now available, including the Discovery Pass on sale for the limited-time price of $179.  Also available are Discover Plus passes and all-ages passes.  Check out SledIsland.com for more info.
