Chicago Club Closes After Partial Ceiling Collapse

A Chicago nightclub says it has voluntarily agreed to close until further notice after a partial collapse of the ceiling caused injuries this weekend.

The Concord Music Hall in the Logan Square neighborhood says it will cooperate fully with city of Chicago officials to ensure all safety concerns are addressed.

Chicago police say a piece of the ceiling fell onto a crowd of concertgoers around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, sending three people to hospitals.

In a statement, the venue said it was a section of plaster that gave way.

There was no official word on what caused the collapse.

Witness Ryan Chun told WMAQ-TV that the sound system was so loud and bass-heavy that “it literally shook the ceiling down.”
