Boy George Has Album, Will Travel

With a new album coming out in March, Boy George has an eight-night tour beginning in Philadelphia in mid-April.  Stops include Boston, Toronto, New York and Los Angeles.

George’s new album This Is What I Do, lands in stores March 25.  For his upcoming tour in support of the disc, the former Culture Club singer has assembled a nine-piece band that includes a brass section and backing vocalists.  Written by George and his longtime writing partners John Themis, Kevan Frost and Richie Stevens, the long player was produced by Stevens at London’s Cowshed Studios and features collaborations with producer Youth, DJ Yoda, Kitty Durham, Ally McErlaine, MC Spee and Nizar Al Issa.

The first single from the album is “King Of Everything.”

“I wanted to make a baggy album, not overproduced, and I think I have achieved it,” George said.  “I was listening to things like ‘Beast Of Burden’ by The Stones, and I had my head most definitely in the ’70s. … I was also writing from a happy place.  This time, no ex-lovers to get revenge on.  For me ‘Bigger Than War’ sums up the tone.”

George will also release an exclusive edition of This Is What I Do March 25 that will be available at brick-and-mortar retail outlets as well as online.

The North American tour takes place after George plays shows in the U.K. and in Europe.  Here’s the schedule:

April 18 – Philadelphia, Pa., Theatre Of The Living Arts
